Ornithology surveys are methodologies used by ecologists and conservationists to monitor, map, and assess bird populations and their habitats. Survey types are chosen based on the target species, time of year, and the specific conservation or development goals of the project.
Examples include: BBS, MBBS, Vantage Point, WeBs and targeted species surveys.
-
An Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) is a site-based ecological professional whose primary role is to monitor and protect biodiversity during construction, infrastructure, or land development projects. They bridge the gap between ecology and construction, ensuring that environmental regulations and wildlife laws are strictly followed.
-
Ecology technical expertise paired with project management ensures that complex environmental initiatives—such as development mitigation, rewilding, or habitat restoration—are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with environmental legislation.
-
Habitat surveys categorise and map ecological features to evaluate biodiversity and inform land management or planning applications. The standard approach involves progressive tiers of assessment—from preliminary appraisals to in-depth botanical and biodiversity metric surveys
-
Water quality monitoring surveys are designed to assess the health of aquatic ecosystems and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. They utilise physical, chemical, and biological testing methods to track water parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and heavy metals
-
A marine mammal survey evaluates the distribution, abundance, and behavior of cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises) and pinnipeds (seals, sea lions). Methods include visual line-transect surveys (boat and digital aerial), passive acoustic monitoring (hydrophones), and eDNA water sampling.
